Joe Cusumano, Ph.D., LPC Joe Cusamano Photo
received his doctorate in Counselor Education from St. Louis University in 1986. In 1987, he was among the first group in Missouri to become a Licensed Professional Counselor; he is also a Nationally Certified Counselor. He was in private practice for

fourteen years, until he joined St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute in June of 2000. He has been on staff at Florissant Psychological Services, Inc. for the past four years.

In 1996, his first book, Transforming Scrooge: Dickens’ Blueprint for Spiritual Awakening, was published. In December of 1999, his second book, If You Build It: Creating Your Own Field of Dreams, was released. If you wish more information about these books, please let us know. He is currently working on his third book, which should be completed before the end of 2006.

Joe has been interviewed on several national radio shows (Art Bell’s Coast to Coast A.M., New Dimensions Radio with Michael Toms, And Wisdom Radio’s The Spirit of the Time with Michael Toms). Additionally, he has been interviewed locally on television by John Pertzborn and on radio by George Noory.

Dr. Cusumano has written numerous newspaper and magazine articles related to counseling, spirituality, and education. In addition to his counseling endeavors, he was a Communication Skills teacher for thirty years, as well as a certified Reading Specialist. Earlier in his career, he was a national consultant for Scholastic’s Action Magazine.

This past fall, he ran a psycho-spiritual group at Florissant Psychological Services, Inc. He plans to begin another one later this year, as well as an anger management group. Dr. Cusumano has several areas of counseling interest, including issues related to grief, depression, anxiety, obsessive thinking, and spirituality. He regularly evaluates and treats children, adolescents, and adults for ADHD.
